Spotted snapper is distributed in the Pacific region, including North Korea, Japan, Taiwan Island of China, the South China Sea, the East China Sea, the Yellow Sea and other sea areas, and the Hawaiian Islands are also recorded. It is a tropical fish with a depth of 3-135 metres. The body is gray-brown and has a silver-white lustre. The head, body side, pectoral fins and the base of the strange fins are densely covered with many black spots. The body colour of the young fish is light brown; the fins are dark. The maximum body length can reach 86 centimetres. Carnivorous, sharp teeth, can bite hard shells such as shellfish or sea urchins.
